Exercise to train basic technique, passing, and receiving over short distances |
Inside of the foot, First touch, Dribbling with feints, Feints and tricks, Pass, Support, Pass back, Triangle, Body positioning, Run to support player in possession |
Create a straight line of 15 meters/16 yards using the two blue markers. About 8 or 10 meters/9-11 yards away, create another straight line (of the same length) parallel to the blue line, using the two red markers (as shown in the figure). Place the two “wing” players (X and Y in red shirts) at the red markers, two other players (A and C in white shirts) next to the blue ones, and the last player (B) halfway along the blue straight line, inside the field between the two pairs of markers. Give the ball to player A.
- Player A begins the exercise by attempting to pass the ball directly to player Y
- Player Y, upon receiving the ball, must perform a “one-two” with A, returning the ball with one touch (with a header or a touch of the foot)
- Player B, overtaken by A, will position themselves next to the blue cone at the start (where A was previously positioned)
- After receiving the ball from Y, player A will dribble past player C (in passive defense)
- Player C, who has been dribbled past, will position themselves in the center of the blue line (where player B was previously positioned)
- After passing C, player A will reach the blue marker opposite the starting marker
- Once they reach the marker, A will pass the ball to player X, who, after receiving the ball with their first touch, must play on the ground to B, restarting the sequence
- The exercise is repeated without interruption for the entire duration of the series (with continuous rotation in the positions of the white players A - B - C)

Phase 1

Phase 2
- At the end of each series, swap positions between two white players and the two red wings (reversing roles between the two fixed wings and the active players performing the sequence)
- Increase the distance between the markers and, consequently, between the players
- Reverse the direction of the passing sequence, starting from the left and moving to the right
- Pay particular attention to passing and ball control technique
- Encourage players to dribble as realistically and quickly as possible
- There should be no breaks during the exercise
- This type of exercise is widely used during warm-ups
