Organization
Use half of a regular field. Create two horizontal zones: first one next to the goal up to the edge of the penalty box (11 meters deep) is the Goal Zone. The second zone goes from the edge of the box to the half circle in the middle of the field (25 meters deep) and is called Play Zone. Divide players into three forwards (A, red players) and two defenders (D, white players). They should go inside the Play Zone. The goalkeeper defends the goal. If there are more players available, swap players after each action.
Description
- Forwards have to reach Goal Zone with a threaded pass towards a teammate or driving the ball
- Defenders have to prevent them from entering the Goal Zone
- Once they are inside the Goal Zone, forwards have to shoot at goal in 3 seconds
- Defenders cannot follow the forwards inside Goal Zone but they can use the offside rule
Rules
- Every time players A receive the ball or drive it to the Goal Zone, they gain 1 point
- Every time players A receive the ball inside the Goal Zone after a threaded pass they gain 2 points
- If players A score a goal they gain 3 points
- When the defenders recover the ball, they need to drive it outside the Play Zone towards halfway line to gain 2 points
Variations
- Defenders can follow forwards inside Goal Zone
- Add a third defender
- Forwards have to perform a minimum number of passes to access the Goal Zone (for example, five passes)
- Add small goals near the halfway line where defenders can shoot at goal
Coaching Points
- Players should try to perform a threaded pass after a good amount of passes
- Pay attention to ball possession and losing the marker movements (timing)
- Defenders should be organized and cooperate
- Player with ball possession should unbalance the defense and then look for a threaded pass
