Summary

Thematic match to improve shooting accuracy and speed in finding the goal

Organization

Use the cones provided to mark out a 40x33-meter/44x36-yard playing field, using the end line with the standard goal. Place two mini goals on each side of the field, about 15 meters/16 yards apart. The mini goals should be about 2 meters wide. Inside the playing area play 4 v 4 (red team against white team) with the goalkeeper defending the regulatory goal.

Description

  • One team starts with possession of the ball
  • Each team defends and attacks two mini goals and the regulatory goal
  • The red team defends mini goals 1 and 4, while the white team defends mini goals 2 and 3
  • A goal scored in the regulatory goal is worth two points, while a goal scored in the mini goals is worth one point
  • The team that concedes a goal restarts with possession of the ball
  • The team with the most points wins

Rules

  • The red team defends goals 1 and 4, while the white team defends goals 2 and 3
  • Both teams also defend the regulatory goal from opposing attacks
  • A goal scored in the regulatory goal is worth 2 points
  • A goal scored in the mini goals is worth 1 point

Variations

  1. Limit the number of touches available to players
  2. Require the ball to be played on the ground
  3. Add a joker who plays with the team in possession of the ball (numerical superiority in attack)

Coaching Points

  • Encourage players to move around and lose their marker by giving them more goals to score
  • Collaboration and defensive organization among players must be maximized, as each team has more goals to defend
  • Initiative, creativity, and switching play are a winning strategy for attackers, as defenders must deal with more references and variables in the defensive phase
  • Pay attention to shooting technique
  • Maximum reactivity for the goalkeeper
