Summary

Tactical drill to improve the team's movements during 4-4-2 attacking phase

Organization

On one half of the court place two forwards on the edge of the box and four players on the halfway line, as midfielders and forwards of a 4-4-2 system. Place the other players behind the midfielders waiting for their turn. Give a ball to external players.

Description

The goal of the drill is to finish after switching play and performing a cross.

  1. The wing A passes the ball to forward F
  2. F passes to the midfielder B; D sprints in the lateral band
  3. B performs a switch of play on D; A attacks in depth on the lateral band and the midfielder C goes towards the edge of the box

 

 

  1. D controls the ball and drives it along the lateral band; forwards E and F attack the box and the wing A approaches the penalty area
  2. D performs a cross towards the box
  3. E finishes

 

Coaching Points

  • Pay attention to the distance between players
  • Pay attention to body orientation when receiving the ball
  • Encourage players to perform a counter movement to lose a marker 
  • Two players that are on the same line should create diagonal movements
  • Pay attention to the position of the support foot during a pass 
  • Players should close a pass with the movement of the leg 
  • The ankle should stay stiff when touching the ball
  • The foot should impact the center of the ball
  • Players should keep their eyes on the ball 
  • Open arms help with stability
