Summary

2 v 2 situation to train escaping from pressure and quick attack

Organization

Create a playing area of 25x15 meters using markers. In the middle of each short side place a small goal. Divide the field into two equal halves, creating a central line using markers. A pair of players go near one of the small goals, ready to receive the ball from the coach (white players in the picture). Another pair goes next to two central markers, ready to press the opponents (red players).

Description

  • The exercise starts when the coach passes the ball to the attacking team (white players). The two defenders (red) start from the midline
  • They play a 2 v 2 situation
  • White players should try to go beyond the midline and then choose in which goal to shoot
  • If red defenders recover the ball, they have to go beyond the midline and then choose the goal to shoot at
  • 2 v 2 situation ends after finishing or if the ball goes outside the playing area
  • Players have free ball touches
  • Teams can attack ten times each
  • Each time a goal is scored one point is gained
  • The team that scored most wins

Rules

  • Swap initial position of attackers (one time they start from the left, next time from the right)
  • Swap pairs of players

Variations

  1. Attacking pair has to perform two consecutive passes before finishing

Coaching Points

  • Encourage players to use fantasy, initiative, dribbling
  • Encourage players to play with the teammate to make the right choice both as attackers and defenders (problem solving)
  • Pay attention to differentiation between attacking phase and defensive phase
