Place one cone on the baseline and another one 75 meters/82 yards in front of it. Create a 30x40-meter/33x44-yard playing area. Form two teams of five players.
Description
- The drill begins with 4 minutes of interval running between cones (40 seconds of running plus 20 seconds of recovery) over 75 meters/82 yards, with a change of direction (75+75 meters) at the highest possible intensity
- At the end of the time, without pause, the players move onto the field, where they play a Medium-sided Game for 2 consecutive minutes with the goal of carrying the ball past the opponent’s marker line
- The drill lasts a total of 6 minutes, and it is recommended to perform three or four sets with a 2-minute 30-second rest between sets
Variations
- Vary the Medium-sided Game by having players score in four mini goals
- Vary the interval drill by adjusting the distances based on the team’s athletic level, so as to make it more or less challenging
Coaching Points
- The technical-tactical objectives are to practice dribbling, losing the marker, and other cognitive skills under conditions of fatigue
- The physical and athletic objectives are to stimulate the lactacid energy system and develop endurance strength
- It is recommended to perform the drill on MD (match day) +2 only for non-starters (players who did not play in the match or played less than 60 minutes), or on MD+3 or MD-3 (for everyone)
