Turning upside down over the elastic band and saving

Summary

Goalkeeper exercise to improve agility and saving technique

Organization

In the playing area set up for the exercise, place two poles about 6 meters apart. Tie an elastic band about half a meter above the ground between the poles. Place a cone 4 meters to the right and left of the elastic band. The goalkeeper stands in the center of the elastic band. The coach stands in front of the 6-meter pole with a good supply of balls (as shown in the picture).

Description

  • The exercise consists of two sets per theme for repetitions. The themes are: ground ball, dunk ball, rebounds, mid-height shots, and high shots
  • For the rebound and high shot themes, the trainer throws a ball with his hands, and after each save, the goalkeeper must return it from the ground or as soon as he gets up
  • Below is an example of how to perform the exercise:
    1. The goalkeeper performs a somersault over the elastic band and makes a save on the cone
    2. The goalkeeper returns to the elastic band running sideways, looking at the coach
    3. He performs a somersault over the elastic band and makes a second save on the other cone
  • Change the starting side between sets

Variations

  1. The goalkeeper saves shots by deflecting them (low shots, rebounds, and high shots with one hand; dunk balls mid-height shots with two hands)

Coaching Points

  • Pay attention to the goalkeeper's coordination during saves
