Exercise to train build-up from the back while avoiding 2-man pressure |
Pass, Oriented control, Mobility, Don’t give away possession, Possession triangles, Patient build up, Playing out against pressing |
Use the markers to create a 40×60-meter/44×66-yard playing field. Place a goal in the middle of each short side. Divide the field into three zones, each measuring 20×40 meters/22×44 yards. Form two teams of six players. The team that starts without possession places two players inside each zone, and the team that starts with possession places three players in their defensive zone, two in the central zone, and one inside the offensive zone.
- Pre-drill explanation:
- Explain to players in possession how they should position themselves to gain superiority in the first zone and facilitate the progression of the action while maintaining numerical superiority at all times
- Remind them of the solutions that allow them to overcome 2-man pressing
- The game starts with the goalkeeper and the team in possession creating a numerical superiority in their defensive zone: 3 (two central defenders and a midfielder) plus the goalkeeper against 2 opponents pressing
- The players of the team in possession are free to move in all areas and aim to advance to the attacking zone to finish
- The team not in possession must always have two players in each zone; if they recover the ball, they must try to finish on goal
- The game always starts from the goalkeeper
- The team without the ball can press with two players in each zone
- If the team not in possession recovers the ball, the game becomes free (without any restrictions) until the end of the action
- If necessary, require the team in possession to keep at least one player inside each zone
- Add a joker
- Coach:
- The focus is on occupying the space of the team in possession with the aim of always ensuring numerical superiority
- Encourage verticalization once the initial pressure has been overcome
- Communications from the coach:
- Focus individually on the needs of each player
- Encourage players to look for and identify open spaces in the opponent's layout
- Encourage players who are in areas where there isn't the ball to try to create continuous passing lanes
- Ideas for the offensive player:
- Create vertical solutions
- Use forward runs once you have overtaken your opponents
- What is the purpose of this exercise?
- Continuously face 2-man pressing
- Face a situation similar to a real game in which you can recognize possible solutions
- Move forward quickly once you have overcome the first line of pressure
- Problems that may arise:
- The exercise can be low intensity. Emphasize advancing and finishing by rewarding achievements in the area beyond where the ball is located and giving an extra reward for finishing
