The exercise takes place on half of the pitch. Starting from the penalty area line, 16 meters/17 yards from the goal, create a 25x25-meter/27x27-yard square using markers (as shown in the picture). Divide the square into two zones: the zone closest to the goal, measuring 25x23 meters/27x25 yards (Zone “A”), and the zone opposite the goal, measuring 25x2 meters/27x2 yards (Zone “B”). The players are divided into two teams of three (in the picture, three white attackers and three red defenders) and position themselves inside the LARGE AREA. A goalkeeper defends the goal. The ball is given to the attackers to start the game.
- The main objective for:
- The three attackers is to score in the goal defended by the goalkeeper
- The three defenders is the goal in end zone B
- At the coach's signal, the three attackers start in possession of the ball against the three defenders, resulting in a 3 v 3 situation
- Possession of the ball can only take place within zone A
- In order to try to score, the three attackers must attempt to free up one of their teammates with a deep pass towards the goal (picture 1)
- If an attacker manages to receive the deep pass, only one defender can follow him outside zone A to prevent him from scoring (picture 1)
- If the defenders recover the ball during the 3v3, they can try to score a goal with a pass inside zone B to one of their teammates (picture 2)
- For this goal to be valid, players must not stand inside zone B waiting for the ball (offside position), but must enter it with a run
- If the ball leaves the rectangle, play always restarts with the three attackers
- After 6 minutes, switch the roles of the groups of three players (rotation at the end of the first series)
- At the end of the exercise, the team that has scored the most points by adding up the goals wins

Picture 2
- The three attackers have a maximum of three touches inside zone A
- If the attacker receives a deep pass outside zone A, they are free to face the goalkeeper in a 1v1 situation and none of the three defenders can chase them to prevent them from scoring
- Adjust the playing space according to the age and ability of the team
- Useful exercise for working on 3v3 situations
- The transition phase is crucial. When recovering the ball or losing it, players must be able to adapt quickly to the new situation (quick adaptation and reorganization)
- Encourage the player in possession of the ball, if they cannot find any free passing lanes, to try to dribble past the opponent or protect the ball
- The timing and space for receiving the ball in depth are crucial
- Focus on the ability to interpret and anticipate the play in a high-intensity situation
