Exercise for oriented ball control

Summary

Technical proposal to be implemented during the activation phase to improve oriented control

Organization

Create a 10x10-meter/11x11-yard square. Four players are positioned in the corners, three of whom have the ball. One player without the ball is positioned in the center of the square. Create additional squares so that all players can perform the exercise at the same time.

Description

  • One of the players in the corners passes the ball to the player in the center, who controls it and passes it to the player in the corner who hasn't got the ball
  • In each series, alternate the player in the center every minute

Variations

  1. The other two players who did not pass the ball to the player in the center pass the ball between themselves
  2. The player in the center performs a one-two with the player from whom she received the ball (closed posture), then opens up and plays with the opposite player (if they had the ball, they have now passed it to the player without the ball)
  3. The player in the center can only play with one touch
  4. Vary the direction of the exercise to train the technique of both feet

Coaching Points

  • Pay attention to passing technique: players must keep their heads up and serve their teammates accurately with the right intensity of pass
  • Work on passing timing: players call out to their teammates as they prepare to receive the ball, thus dictating the timing of the pass
  • Sprints to the next position must be performed quickly to increase the dynamism of the exercise
