Unmarking, control to open and finishing

Summary

Train offensive players on unmarking for finalization

Organization

At 25 meters/27 yards from the goal place a pair of markers 10 meters/11 yards apart where player A is placed in the center. At 10 meters/11 yards from the pair of markers (35 meters/38 yards from the goal) place a second pair of markers where defender B is placed in the center. Finally, 10 meters/11 yards from the second pair of markers form a third pair of markers (45 meters/49 yards from the goal) where player C is placed in the center. Near the midfield place a marker where the rest of the players will wait their turn.

Description

  • Player C tries to pass the ball to teammate A, avoiding an interception by defender B
  • Player A, through unmarking movements, tries to find a passing line that allows them to receive C's pass
  • Once having passed B with a pass, A "opens" the ball with a control toward the goal and ends the action with a shot

Rules

  • Players A, B and C can only move horizontally between their own pair of markers

Coaching Points

  • The pass must be made strongly, so that players become accustomed to hitting the ball hard and thus interception will be more difficult
  • The player receiving the pass must consistently look for clearance so as to create a favorable passing line
  • Incite the player receiving the pass to open the closed ball with one touch, directing the control toward the goal
  • The defender must adapt their position according to the movements of the player who has the ball and the player who is to receive it
