Ball supremacy - "carrying the ball" race

Summary

Exercise proposed for junior and grassroots players to improve dribbling at speed

Organization

Form the little circuit using 1 marker and 2 cones for the exercise. The marker works as a starting point for the players; about 10 meters in front of the marker, make a little goal using 2 cones. Create other paths in the same way to make the whole team doing the exercise (as shown in the figure). Separate the players into groups of four and place each team behind the marker (left in the figure). Each player has a ball.

Description

  • The players stay in line near the marker and start one by one at full speed carrying the ball towards the little goal in front of them
  • After passing inside the little goal the players have to turn around the cone (right in the figure) using the internal part of the foot (the left foot in the figure) and then go back to the starting point staying in line with the teammates
  • The second player starts once the teammate finished the exercise
  • The team who finishes the exercise first, wins the challenge

Variations

  1. Specify how the player have to turn around after passing the goal (internal part of the foot, external, left, right etc...)
  2. The player passes the ball through the goal, then gets back the ball

Coaching Points

  • Encourage the competitiveness among the teams increasing the exercise rhythm
  • Near the cones the players have to increase the number of ball touches in order to improve the controlled turning technique
