Learn how to defend various 1 v 1 situations |
Positioning, Tackling, Straighten, Run to support player in possession, Defending at the right distance |
Depending on the number of players, set up one or two fields with markers. Form two teams and define the pairs that will face each other in a duel. Arrange the players as in the picture: A and A1, with the ball, on the corners of the short side in front of the goal, inside the field B (defender) and B1 (attacker), D and D1 one on the right and the other on the left, about halfway along the long side, C and C1 next to the goal. Once the action is over, players A and A1 take the place of B and B1, B and B1 take the place of C and C1, C and C1 move to D and D1, and finally D and D1 go to A and A1. A goalkeeper is positioned to defend the goal. Once the action is over, encourage the players to move quickly from one position to another. In the next round, those who attacked defend. Place a supply of balls at the starting positions to give continuity and rhythm to the exercise.
- The exercise aims to train defenders to counter various 1v1 situations
- The attacker must try to score a goal through individual action (e.g., feints and dribbling) or by cooperating with players on the sides of the field (e.g., through one-twos, give-and-goes, cuts, through balls, feints, etc.)
- The defender must prevent their direct opponent from scoring
- The exercise begins with a pass from A or A1 to B, who has approached
- At the end of the exercise, the pair who scores the most goals wins
First series
- The defender moves onto the attacker after controlling the ball to practice the situation in which the opponent has had time to turn
Second series
- The defender moves toward the attacker when the pass is made in order to practice the situation in which the opponent has not had time to turn around
- The attacker has free touches and the support players have a maximum of two touches and only play in support of their teammates; they cannot score goals
- If the defender recovers the ball, they clear it to get used to avoiding immediate aggression from the attacker
- Create a competition by counting who scores the most goals; the loser receives a penalty (for example, five push-ups for each goal difference; in the event of a tie, both players do twenty push-ups)
- Observe how the defender approaches both frontal and dorsal duels, encouraging them to find an effective position and distance in relation to the ball and opponent
- Encourage the defender to keep their center of gravity low, their feet at different heights, and their eyes on the ball. Encourage active defense through orientation and the use of feints
- Check how the defender behaves to counter various types of attacking actions
