The area of the field to be used for the exercise is a regulatory half of the field. Create a 20x10-meter/22x11-yard rectangle at both ends of the penalty area, to the right and left of the semicircle, using the markers (white areas in the picture). Inside both rectangles, one to the right and one to the left of the goal, position a defender (two yellow players in the picture). In front of both rectangles, about 10 meters/11 yards away, place two attackers (white-red players in the picture) and a neutral player (purple player in the picture) for a total of six players. The two midfielders (white and red players in the picture) are positioned near the center of the field, one on the right and one on the left, with a good supply of balls. A goalkeeper is positioned to defend the goal.
- At the coach's signal, the left midfielder makes a long throw toward the inside of the 20x10-meter/22x11-yard rectangle on the left side of the goal
- The defender (yellow) and the two forwards (white and red) attack the space where they expect the ball to land
- The neutral player must be ready to play with both the defender and the two forwards:
- If the defender anticipates the forwards, the neutral player will play with the defender, creating a 2 v 3 situation (the two defenders against the two forwards + the midfielder who made the pass). The objective of the two defenders (yellow and purple players) is to try to score by taking the ball beyond the midfield line (example in the picture). If the attackers gain possession of the ball, they try to score a goal
- If the two forwards beat the defender and win the ball, the neutral player joins them. In this case, the defender must try to rebound the ball as quickly as possible or intercept it. If the forwards win the ball before the defender, they can attack the goal to score with the help of the neutral player (3 v 1 situation)
- At the end of the first series, the players who performed the exercise on the left side of the field move to the right side, and vice versa, the players who performed the exercise on the right side move to the opposite side
- The forwards have a maximum of 10 seconds to try to score a goal
- The defender, with the help of the neutral player, has a maximum of 10 seconds to try to score by driving the ball past the halfway line
- The neutral player must make his intentions clear by offering a passing lane to the defender (playing alongside the defender) or by attacking the defender and the goal (playing alongside the forwards)
- At the end of each action, change the neutral player
- Alternate between an action developing on the right and an action developing on the left
- Work on the kicking technique of the player taking the throw: accuracy, power control, impact on the ball
- Work on the players' ability to read high trajectories
- Focus on the defender's rebound, with correct ball impact and body posture
- Encourage attackers to develop an offensive solution quickly once they have won the ball
- Focus on jumping technique and use of the torso and arms in attacking headers by defenders
- Encourage the neutral player to lose their marker, ready to support the defender if they win the ball or ready to unmark in depth
- Take care of transition phases
