Game for 1 v 1 stimulation and defense

Summary

Thematic match focused on 1 v 1 duels

Organization

Inside the field, two teams line up according to their positions in the case of a 4 v 4 game, or freely in the case of a 6 v 6 game. The goalkeepers defend the goals.

Description

  • The game is played without corner kicks or throw-ins, in order to maintain a high level of intensity
  • A goal is valid according to the rules or when the attacker manages to dribble past their direct opponent

Rules

  • Dribbling must be effective. If, after getting past the defender, the attacker turns back or is caught up, the goal is not valid
  • There are no throw-ins or corner kicks
  • The action starts with the goalkeeper who should have taken the throw-in or corner kick
  • A goal scored from a solo dribble counts double

Variations

  1. Use the markers to form lanes and restrict dribbling to the sidelines only, encouraging the attacker to receive the ball wide
  2. The defender who recovers the ball from the dribbling attempt scores a point for their team

Coaching Points

  • During the defensive phase, depending on the area of the field, check how the defender handles 1 v 1 situations (body position, timing of closing down on the ball, etc.)
  • This type of game reveals certain characteristics of the players: some will often attempt to dribble, while others will never do so. This is determined by each player's sense of self-efficacy; it is therefore necessary to allow players to experiment with one-on-one situations
