Passing over colorful gates

Summary

Cognitive drill to train receiving and passing accuracy

Secondary Objectives

Reaction time, Perception, Orientate, Pass, Long pass

Organization

In a field area of about 25x25 meters place three gates formed by poles of three different colors, as in the picture. On the outside of the perimeter formed by the posts place two players, one with a ball, one without it. In the center of the area formed by the three gates place a third player without the ball. The coach participates by indicating from time to time the colors of the gates through which the ball is to pass.

Description

  1. The players outside the perimeter formed by the gates move in a circle, one with a ball and one without it
  2. At some point, the coach calls a color (e.g., "Blue") and the player with the ball should quickly lead it to the gate and throw it to the player in the middle
  3. While the center player is controlling the ball, the coach calls a second color (e.g., "Yellow") i.e., the gate where the player who just executed the control will have to pass the ball
  4. While the center player makes the pass, the player on the outside without the ball will have to be ready to receive the pass behind the gate just called, then control the ball
  5. The exercise begins again reversing the conduction of the ball

Every end of the series change the central player

Exercise situation in which the coach calls first "Blue" then "Yellow"

Rules

  • The central player has two ball touches at most. One to control, one for passing
  • Passes and throws must pass inside the gates

Variations

  1. Reduce the size of the gates
  2. Increase the number of gates, of players on the outside and add a player on the inside, using two balls at the same time

Coaching Points

  • Accuracy in passing and throwing
  • Maximum reaction of outside players when calling the color
  • Low intensity only when running with the ball outside
