Summary

Speed, reaction and dribbling in a 1 vs 1 situation

Organization

Split the team into three groups. Each group has two rows of players with vests of different colors (white and red in the picture). Place each row of players next to a marker, each marker is 5 meter distant from the other. This drill is performed by pairs: three pairs work simultaneously. The rows are on an imaginary line as shown in the picture. Keep some soccer balls next to each group. Each pair works with a ball.

Description

  • The first pair of each group sits with legs crossed and the back turned to the teammates
  • Between each pair there is a ball
  • The coach (or another player) kicks the ball beyond the line
  • Players get up quickly and try to reach the ball first
  • First player to reach the ball should dribble the opponent and bring the ball back to the starting line
  • The timing of the ball kick is random

Rules

  • If the player with the ball brings it back to the line, they gain 1 point
  • If the player with the ball loses it, the action ends
  • The player who scores most points wins

Variations

  1. Change how players wait before the kick (lying on their back, lying down...)

Coaching Points

  • Immediate reaction at the kick
  • Maximum speed
  • Good dribbling technique
  • Ball protection and control
