Create with markers four 2x2-meter mini squares positioned as vertices of a larger 15x15-meter/16x16-yard square-shaped workstation. The four mini squares are about 11 meters/12 yards apart. Inside each mini square, in the center, place a cone or pole. Along the four sides of the workstation, between one mini square and another, in the center, place a mannequin (or two stakes). Players arrange themselves in pairs near the four mini squares; one player of the pair stands inside the mini square and the other waits outside. The drill is initially carried out with four balls at the same time and then switches to only two. Alternate the direction of the drill: clockwise and counterclockwise.
The drill, planned as an activation and technical warm-up, is divided into two phases: PHASE A and PHASE B. It follows a progression in both technical difficulty and increased conditional load.
- PHASE A:
- The 4 players positioned in the four mini squares have one ball each (work with four balls at the same time)
- They start dribbling, all in the same direction, reaching the mannequin in front of them
- Upon reaching the mannequin they scoop up the ball with the feet and execute an oriented control moving outside into the free space (“STOP” controls can be executed in various ways: of inside foot, outside foot, etc.).
- After the stop they pass the ball inside the mini square in front of them to the second player who has occupied it in the meantime and run behind the same mini square waiting for their turn
- The second player of the pair who receives the ball performs an oriented control over the cone that is in the center of the mini square
- After controlling the ball, the player starts dribbling, repeating the same sequence
Phase A
- PHASE B:
- Only 2 players of the 4 positioned in the mini squares start with the ball (those positioned at opposite vertices of the workstation)
- In ball conduction they face the mannequin in the center of the side in front of them and pass it with a feint or dribble
- Immediately afterwards they pass the ball to the player positioned inside the next mini-square facing them by positioning themselves in a line outside it waiting for their turn
- The player, to whom the ball has been passed, performs an oriented control over the central cone positioned in the mini square and starts again in ball conduction to face the next mannequin and so on
Phase B
- Both 8-minute sets should be performed for 4 minutes clockwise and 4 minutes counterclockwise
- It is important that the four balls first and the two later on, which are used simultaneously in the performance of the drill, are always equidistant from each other, that is, they are on the four different sides, never along the same side
- Phase A involves the sequence: BALL - ORIENTED STOP - TRANSMISSION - ORIENTED CONTROL
- Phase B involves the sequence: DRIVE THE BALL - FEINT/DRIBBLING - TRANSMISSION - ORIENTED CONTROL
- Especially in the first phase, the activation phase, take care of the execution of the technical gestures of dribbling, oriented stop and oriented control
- Ball transmission should be executed with precision and good kick intensity to promote oriented control of teammates inside mini squares
- For control within the mini squares have the body oriented properly by moving away from the central cone simulating an opponent, so as to be able to overcome him on the first receiving touch and without leaving the square
- In the second phase, increase the speed of execution and the pace of the drill, encouraging players' imagination and speed of dribbling and feints in facing the mannequins. In this phase, keep the intensity high to complete the warm-up phase
